Testimonials for individual counselling

"I first met Alistair when he was facilitating a boys’ rites of passage camp, where he held responsibility for the psychological welfare of the teenage boys. I was immediately struck by his exceptional ability to work with groups of young men and adult men, reading the room with a rare intuition, sensing both the collective mood and the needs of individuals. He engaged the boys with compassion and respect while skilfully mentoring them to discover their own inner strength, always modelling integrity. His connection to nature and ability to weave it meaningfully into his work creates a powerful environment for reflection and growth - something I saw vividly when he brought the mytho-poetic story of Iron John to life for the group. Since then, I’ve joined him on many camps and now run these camps myself, and throughout that time Alistair has been both an inspiring leader and a supportive mentor, helping hold the team of men together as a strong and grounded container. I’m grateful to call him both a mentor and a friend."

"I saw Alistair for several months as I was looking for help coping with what felt like a world-shattering late adulthood ADHD diagnosis and self-medicating with comfort eating and alcohol.

His kindness, patience, professional perceptive insight and warm humanity has been wonderful throughout. He has listened patiently to me, challenged my preconceptions and assumptions and helped me find ways of thinking and acting that have changed my life.

I have finished my time with Alistair happier, lighter of spirit and more empowered than I have ever felt in my life. I could not have done it without him. He is very, very good at what he does. I cannot recommend him enough."

“Working with Alistair is a genuinely valuable experience. He brings a rare balance of gentleness and thoughtful challenge, helping me feel both supported and encouraged to explore. His ability to see things from angles I hadn’t considered, clearly grounded in his depth of experience, makes a real difference.

I feel truly heard and understood in our sessions, without any sense of judgement. At the same time, I trust that he will respectfully challenge my thinking or behaviours when it matters. He is fully present and engaged, and each session feels purposeful—like something is shifting, not just being talked about.

I would highly recommend Alistair to anyone looking for a counsellor who offers both compassion and meaningful progress. You will find both working with Alistair.”

“I met Ali on a ‘Rites of Passage' camp for young men back in 2014. At the time, I was one of the camp mentors alongside Ali, where I learnt about his experience teaching therapists. From that year onwards, we would return to the camps - Alistair consistently demonstrating his aptitude in mentoring young men. I noticed his patience in difficult situations, but also his capability to challenge young people to better themselves.

Alistair is an honest and authentic character through and through, balancing honesty and professionalism with a cheerful wonder and playfulness. The impact of this balance on the camps themselves made Ali approachable to participants who were otherwise hesitant to engage in the various activities hosted on the camp. Ali has been such a valuable team member in hosting the rites of passage camps, holding space in a way feels safe for all involved. I strongly endorse Ali in his endeavours to deliver camps for men and boys.”
